I might have liked this more if I'd known from the start it was a violent mystery (I thought it was going to be a Romancing-the-Stone-style romance). I just can't get into books that include details of the rape & murder of young women and small children and how excited those experiences make the bad guys feel. I found the island setting unbelievable - the descriptions of the surroundings, culture, and locals in no way felt like a Caribbean island. The "romance" between Cooper & Angeline was awful - I could believe that they'd once upon a time been a couple but had thankfully separated , but not that they'd ever, ever want to be together again. And Angeline's reasons for pretending to be dead were just bizarre.
