Although it was great to see River reach his Happily Ever After, the side character development of Sable, Nikos, Mason, and (surprisingly) Straton is more engaging than the main plot. I had the same problem with this book as the first one: the most intense scenes between the hero and heroine were chopped up with pages-long introspection in each character's mind. There's one part where it takes Emma two pages of inner debate to leave her room and see why everyone downstair's is up in the middle of the night. OMG, just walk down the stairs already! While the more romantic & interpersonal scenes were frustrating, the action & battle scenes were awesome. I will definitely be searching out the third book in the series.
